Steel Prices Might Rise :(
Just a FYI for all you steel armours out there. One of my coworkers tells me that New Orleans was one of the biggest ports for steel in the US. If that's the case then raw steel prices will probably soar (as well as many other things such as car prices). In fact my friend thinks that they are easily...

Like I said. I'm not overly concerned with sharpening the blade. It was just a passing thought anyways. But thanks for tips on polishing the blade. The basic idea I'm getting seems to get some steel wool or a scothbrite pad and scrub really hard! But what can I do to keep the shine? Keep polishing i...

IF it is actually pot metal don't use it as a sword. To be honest I don't intend on do anything more with it than sliding into a scabbard and wearing it a various ren faires (coincidentally, my next step is too make a scabbard!). I was just hoping to make it look more like a sword. Well I would try...

No takers? I realize this is about a weapon but it is also about metal. Oh well. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I've recently somewhere else that nickle electroless might be the way to go. And apparently this can be done at home. It's not exactly a period solution, but then again I think t...

Help polishing/cleaning pot metal
I hope this is the right forum to post this, as it applies to a weapons as opposed to armor. I apologize in advance if this the wrong forum. In anycase, I recently bought a sword that is made of pot metal (or so I'm told). The sword itself is very dull and is a mottled black & grey color. Is it poss...

Verminaard, Thax, nice to meet you. I've probably already met you folks before at different events, but I'm horrible with names (my apologies). It took me 20 years just remember my own!! For reference, my name is Unofficial Emperor Grum Grum The Great. And, yes. Come to Drandmir. Wanna see your work...

Surely, if there is all that overlap, any armoured area of the body would be covered by two plates of a given thickness. So what's the gauge (effective thickness) of TWO layers of 18 gauge? Surely it's THICKER than 16 ga? Can't you convince your club of this (fairly elementary) concept? Possibly. B...

I am puzzled as to why you would want plates that thick... To be honest I'm not sure why our group requires 16 guage either. Afterall, we use boffer swords for fighting! I should explain a little better though. Our group uses a point system when dealing with armor. The better the armor, the more po...

Lamellar 16 gauge plates
Does anyone know where I could get my hands on 16 gauge lamellar plates? I have only found a couple sites on line that sell lamellar plates, and they are either plastic or 20 gauge.
Thanks in advance.

Cleaning Armour
I have a terrible tendecy to sweat and I have the feeling that once I start working on my leather armour and actually wearing, that problem isn't going to go away. And I realize that tossing the armour into a washer isn't going to do the armour wonders. So with that in mind, can anybody tell me a go...

Good Starting Patterns.
Sorry folks, I've really tried to avoid posting a newbie question to the forums. However I could not find my answer in the essays and the search engine errored out on me. So I'm left with one recourse... What armour pattern is recommended as a starting pattern for newbies? I'm tempted to go for the ...
