Sir Nigel, Sir Johannes -
Will you be tightening the kit requirement to a more precise date of the 14th century? I know now that we have been in the range of 1350 to 1400. That's a broad spectrum of kits.

Care to explain why you didn't answer my question? I've noticed that you complain a lot about people not responding to your website and items for sale. When you are given constructive criticism and feedback, you give snide responses and ignore the advice. I told you I would bid if you would explain ...

My thoughts on ransoms: Replica coins are cool, however, one can not really do anything with replica coins but save them in a pouch. If this were 1351, the coins received from ransoms I would be used to buy material goods. Making/buying material goods to give as ransoms simply takes out the middle m...

Thanks for the replies all! I guess I did understand the meaning of doublet afterall. I don't think that's the problem - I don't have a lot to suck in being pretty skinny. It is more of a posture thing, which I suppose a well constructed doublet would help with too. In any case, when I got home last...

Hi James- Thankks for the reply. 1) Use cloth buttons not metal; they fit tighter and do not gap as bad. The gap is occuring between two sets, not between the two buttons. So if we are looking down my chest: : ) : Where the colon represents two adjacent buttons and the closed parentheses represents ...

Re: Cote Gapping
Wearing a doublet helps with the gaposis. Hi Karen- Thanks for the reply. Yes, that is the version of the manuscript I was refering to. I looked there for hints on how to do the buttons and of course found none! I don't know why I associate this button pattern with BNF Fr. 616, but I do. Basically ...

Couter of Chivalry
Does anyone have any news of the Couter of Chivalry? With whom does this relic reside and when will they be offering to accept the challenges of venans?

Cote Gapping
Sewing/Tailoring question: On a bag sleeve cote a la Gaston Phebus that uses the button arrangement of 3 sets of 2 buttons, how does one keep it from gapping between the button clusters? Perfect posture would fix the problem, but I know that by the end of the day at an event I won't be standing or e...

In mine I have foam padding around the top band and on the flat lid. Nothing down below, and nothing on the faceplate. For a chin strap I drilled four holes, two on each side, and ran a shoe string through in a sideways U shape, a leather chin cup in the middle. Bow on the outside to hold it tight. ...

I can't find a picture of mine in profile, but I assure you that it has a narrow waist and a puffy chest, accentuated by a properly placed belt at the natural waist and the globose breasplate.

Ive thought of this, but Im hesitant to use art color for textile color...both also fade/age differently. Besides they could almost be wearing brown that is simply a degree lighter or with a reddish tint to the artists pigment. Certainly something to think about, thought I wouldnt bank on it...not ...

hypothetical aside, has anyone seen any true atrocities committed on the field that would justify revoking admission or requiring their immediate removal from the field? If so, what warranted the removal of the participant? On the field? No. I did, however, in a pile of donated old weapons to be re...

The custom helm that is currently under construction for me was measured quite ingeniously - the armourer took a nice thick piece of foam and cut an approximate size hole for my head in the center and had me put it on. It was too small, so he took a Sharpie and looking down at the top of my head he ...

That image is from a book, the chronicles of St. Denis, I think, which I believe was completed c late 1390's, so we have an end date for it, but I don't know how long the book was *in* the making, which in the case of illuminated deluxe manuscripts, could be several or more years. Thanks Chef. I kn...

Date of Image
Hi all-
I've seen this image dated to 1375. I'm beginning to question that though - anyone have an idea of what would be a more appropriate time frame for it?
Thanks.

Fighting on bridges I have stood on top of the piled dead bodies of my foes to get a better angle on their still-living comrades. People's eyes get REAL wide when they see you charge up a mound of bodies and stop on top. Like this --- > Honestly, in some battles, just don't fall down. Field battle, ...

Ditto on the Arnica - the stuff is truly amazing. You can find it at GNC if the homeopathis stores give you the willies. Something else - general rule of thumb is to only ice for the first 12-24 hours. After that you should be using heat. The ice reduces the inital swelling, then the heat opens the ...
