Thanks for all of the advice everyone!
I'm excited to be taking my first welding class tonight. Hopefully I will come out of it slightly more equipped to figure these things out for myself next time!

Tangential: We were trying to weld up some 0.032" 4130 earlier this week with a MIG welder. We couldn't manage to get it to go without burning straight through the plate every time. Any hints?

Multi Colored Side BUtton Cloak - 3rd Q 14thC
Hi All- I made a nice wool side button cloak for my 3rd quarter of the 14th C French impression. Unfortunately, it is about 6" too short for where I would prefer the hem to fall. I am out of the wool and doubt I will ever match the color again, since it is a little odd. My preferred solution would b...

Re: Alternative to Madu
Since you've obviously read the many threads about why madu's are evil, we don't need to lecture you further on that specifically. :) The thing is, what you are asking is tantamount to "How do I make a madu that people won't give me shit for?" and I think the answer is you can't. Haters are going to...

The new book by Steven Muhlberger (Duke Finnvar) has some information about late 14th century tournament processionals in it! Is there anything specific you are looking for?

Hi Mac- Let me start by saying that I believe what you have written and that my questions are for my education, not to call into doubt your opinion. Also, as I have said before, I greatly appreciate you taking the time to so thoroughly educate us on all things medieval. So, my question: Why wouldn't...

Hi Tasha- Again, the jupon is stunning. You mention that we will be able to recreate this type of garment with your article and I am looking forward to that. I think that a lot of the recreations we see (in the SCA) are under-padded or even unpadded due to heat retention concerns during SCA combat. ...

Murdock- me and Gruber made these versions out of 18ga 1050, and I think they look pretty close. Gruber should still have the pattern if you want to check with him. Mac gave the completed version a B+ when he saw it on me (along with some great constructive criticism), which made it one of the happ...

I just haven't had time to mess with it yet because I'm still too occupied with class.
That would be the good stuff!
I tried using gasket RTV. It *almost* worked... but made a huge mess in the process.

Hi Sean- The crossbow is certainly legal in An Tir. I've been told that it has been approved in several other western kingdoms and that it is legal for use at Estrella, but you should probably double check with your Earl Marshal. I might be interested in a partial trade, depending upon what you have...
