in response to warlord, yes they will most likely issue fragmentary vests which we all know will not stop a bullet. they are more of a security blanket to make you feel safer. to go along with that, if i were being sent to perform my mos and not as just another warm boddy to play land mine location ...

In the three years I have been emplyed by them I have been pre...

I make and use the same basket hilts as vermin mentioned. Wulfgar gave me the pattern. I second his vote. The look more real than any of the big bulky types.

"bubbles" in weld
"bubbles" in weld or porosity is more often than not due to poor preparation of the metal to be welded, not welder error. however, if the welder in question was a proffesional he should never have returned your piece to you including porosity. Once porosity is present it can sometimes be difficult t...

sheet brass
I have had good luck getting cheap brass using the old kick plates from the bottom of doors used in public/industrial settings. I get it from a surplus place that sells all sorts of used junk. If you look around your area I am sure that you can find a place like that.

for anyone interested in getting a helmet similar to the ones that hammered wombat makes at a cheaper price (due to the fact that admittedly I do need a little more practice making them) and when promised, I have started making the face style helmet. http://www.armoursmith.com/facespangenfront.jpg h...

I am thinking about selling the flamberge, broadsword, and voulge pictured. They were left in a storage container that got damp while I was deployed so they could use a little tlc (surface rust) The flamberge started life as a truck leaf spring. It was constructed through a combination of forge work...

I have a flamberge made from spring steel. It does not flex, however I would not consider fighting with it. The thing got so sharp when I was polishing it that it once cut my (then) girlriend while she was dusting near it.

My personal opinion aside, I do not feel that the amish I deal with would want to have anything to do with your horse skin.

covering a shield
I fight with an aircraft aluminum heater. I generally get the contact cement that you brush on the shield, and the fabric, then you let it dry a while and then stick the two pieces together. Using a fairly heavy wieght fabric you can paint your arms on it and it will last a fairly long time.

once many years ago I did a bascinet with a hinge on either side and removeable pins. I used comercial hinges that were the same size as the bars in the grill. with one pin removed the grill swung open to the side. with both out it came off.
