Averril, remind me this weekend if your going to the stormguard tourney, I will bring you my imperial and post imperieal resources. I have Connely: Warfare of the Greeks and Romans, or is it Arms and Armour - whichever I have it and it has some good illustrations of various helmets and findings. War...

Mrs W. I would largely agree with your 'character building' assesment of our (SCA) combat style. It is a rough and tumble sport wear the playing field is level, ie we dont have weight/rank/gender classes. I would also agree with many of the previous posts that it is not necessarily in and of itself ...

Noe, if you lose on all other fronts and get the account but have to use big loopy slow fighting styles, sneak in one character who uses fiore/wma and go for brutally efficient destruction avoiding all the fancy entertainment western-fu or uber strong character traits etc... Maybe that'll get there ...

Lothar, Based on your garb I would say Bohemond is the best bet, I believe he makes his shoes in the same fashion that Allastair did. I have a pair of ankle high 'turn shoes' from Allastair that I have been fighting in for several months now and love them. They dont have quite the same grip as a vib...

I love Evil's hat, at practice even when not watching the field I can tell when he gets pegged in the head. BWWWWWOOOONNNNNNNNNNNGG. Fighting it is fun as well, its a very skippy shape. I know there was a great and heated debate about accepting or not accepting a good blow to the brim. From what I h...

I have found heat to be a major issue for me. I currently fight in a heavy leather belt worn under a gambeson padded with cotton, with mail over that. There are some small plastic plates for sternum and shoulders but they amount to very little in the way of heat retention. Soaking the gambeson helps...

*Picks up silly stick* You forgot to mention that the curators polished off all the paint and hammer marks, after cutting the rolled edges twice. I am sure if you carefully removed the latten border taking care not to damage the latin inscription shaky spelling and all you would find black paint. *d...

Here you go: From Russ's email. I only had a point-n-click machine, and there's a film imperfection right on top of one of the images (there is NOT a huge while scar on one gauntlet).
