Regrettably I have not yet achieved a satisfying solution with the chausses I bought from Alfred. I have fiddled with them and the best guess I have is that either they are laced under the foot with a thong running through the links, which works perfectly well if you are walking on grass or in the s...

Audax, yes my cuisses are stitched closed at the back seam, making a tube that does completely around my thigh and knee. The top is left open, although I did finish the edges. I have stitched tubes into it and use ABS splints inside. I also quilted in a couple of layers of cotton batting (an old ake...

Build them like mine. Quilt tubes in two layers of sturdy fabric, wrap around leg, stitch comfortably closed, insert plastic splints. Voila. Comfy, protective, low profile and looks reasonably correct. You can wear them under or over your cuisses as your time frame dictates.

Anghaus, the Cappa is correct, the knights hospitaller osprey book has a decent illustration by Mcbride I believe. Seaan, shown on our website, wears a very similar robe. He had no trouble fighting in it and aside from the gooby gauntlets looked pretty smashing. Its a great way to hide sinful armor....

I posted links to some picks on the other version of this thread. Alternatively, my squire brother Eadric wears a short sleeved haubergeon and torvaldr bazubands when he is doing his 13th century impression. They blend in reasonably well. You could wear them under a long sleeved tunic and they would...

I wear a single layer linen coif on my dome under my mail coif and ventail, in four year of this I have only ever been cut once by my mail. And that was a complete fluke involving a hard place, a rock and a southbound express.

Is there any provenance for Piers. I know many effigies were produced significantly after the death of the person they represent.

How early are back point bascinets seen?

I am wondering when the point of the bascinet started to drift towards the back of the skull. I want to rebuild my 14th century kit for the 1350's time frame of the CoTT, but my bascinet has a moderate back point. Its not the extreme cones that you see at the very end of the century. I have been und...

I have spent far more of the battles in recent years yelling than I have actually swinging a stick. If I am swinging things are either going drastically wrong for us or for them.

When actually in the mess fighting no I dont yell - like Galvyn said I am too busy trying to breathe.
