Hey Adam, Your new site looks really nice. It has a nice clean, professional look. I’m guessing the custom page will have links to bigger images at some point, that they are just thumbnails. Also you said that some pictures were lost. It just so happened that I saved a copy of your helm page ...

Hi freiman, As far as fighitng on the knees, I read somewhere of a fellow who brought a piece of carpet and knelt on that when he got legged. He had a new set of leather knees from Torvaldr that he didn't want to ruin. That might work and when the person you're fighting busts up laughing you can wa...

Thanks for the replies and ideas. I'm not really worried about helms. I made a foam cap that just slides in and stays put. I was thinking more for gautlets and the inside next to my neck in my gorget. pretty small pieces that are harder to get to stay put.
Thanks again and keep them coming.

Favorite Glue/Cement for Padding?

I was just wondering what everyone's favorite glue/cement was for use in installing padding in SCA armor. I started out using hot glue and I'm not very happy with it. It doesn't stick well when attaching foam to SS and I've tried a couple of different brands. I used 3M Super 77 the last time and it ...

Here is a pic of my latest shield. It is aluminum with cloth covering, mainly held together with 3M spray adhesive (super90) and liberally coated with enamel paint. Roger I used 3M Super 77 and so far so good. But it's still new so time will tell. What's the difference between the super 77 and 90? ...

I have not seen their work, but they are building a pretty cool web site. There's much more info on custom details that might be used compared to other armourers sites.

Gorget

I thought I'd post a pic of the SCA style gorget I made. It was my first leather armour project and my second shot at doing leather tooling. And after I got the Super Shene off it looks pretty OK.

LOL the old super shene story. I have done leather for a long time and I quit useing the super shene for a couple reason. 1. when it gets hot it gets sticky and can stick leather together. 2. cracks. AB Hammer Thanks for clearing that up. And you know, besides all that, it just looks bad. Makes the...

Interesting thought Konstantin. I'd say I think the Tandy Pro dye is oil based, from what I can tell. The Super Shene is water based. BUT the reason I used the Super Shene on the Pro dye is because that's what it said to use in the description of the dye. So I don't know. BTW I managed to remove (by...

Veg tanned leather, Tandy dye (black) and Super Shene. I rubbed on it a bit today and almost all the finish came right off. I'm thinking after reading in the catalog that it's affected by freezing temps and the fact that it was shipped by Tandy in freezing temps UPS ground that mabe it went bad. Tha...

Best Leather Finish?

I did my first leather armour project. (A gorget) I used Tandy's super shene and not only is it REAALLYY shiney it started to crack and peel off while working on it, even before I used it. Any ideas on striping it off, fixing the finish and/or a better product for future use. The gorget turned out p...

I was just wondering if your stuff is made in the US. They look really nice, but the pricing is very low. Also when are you going to be getting more of the chain maille kits?

Adam,
Your always posting new work here. Why don't you make a gallery or just a list of links to your new work on your web site so we can all see what you have been up to? Love to see it.

It took seeing a helm of Master Johannes for me to realize grills could have all kinds of curves. For sca grills are an eveil we must deal with, so make them, and make them unique, i hate to do the same one twice. Make faces, make beards, make all kinds of shapes. Ed, you should likely see your hat...

Nice Helmets. It's making the wait for mine even harder. That spangen, is that an improved version of H15 or is it concidered a new design? It's looks about the same except the brows and nasal on the new one look like a heavier gauge brass and a nice cleaner design (where they meet, no gap) imho. An...
