I definately agree, my setup (that is about to be made) is going to be 4-5 layers of cotton batting on the body, and about 2-3 down the arms. There is just lacrosse arms and a kidney belt (that might get replaced by plastic pouch bits). I have worn two or three layers of clothing (simulating multipl...

As a particular sidenote (and if the author wants me to delete this thread to prevent sidetracking, please PM me), how many people look at it differently when they are fighting S&S vs spear, polearm, etc. I personally have no problem hitting the dirt but that is because I am a S&S wall-grunt, throug...

Anyone wondering about Dan's gauntlets, they are da bomb. I know one guy around here who has a pair that have seen a LOT of service, and they still rock. I keep trying to talk him into letting me mess around with them, but they never seem to leave his body or armour bag. This is a great pic of them ...

Hey Irish, you up for getting a pair and then letting the rest of us know if they are SCA legal, or easily modified? I agree, my jaw just about dropped when I saw them, and again when Lloyd posted the price. Why, oh why, did Beathan have to do this now? His queue is going to be stacked up for months...

I personally have not bought anything from them, but have heard nothing but good things about them. You might have a bit more luck cross-posting in the Classifieds section. From what I have heard, I would not hesitate to go with them at all, and I might soon be in contact with Beathan about a custom...

Never fought in a Crown, so cant answer the first three. I currently fight in bare Society minimums, but have a maille hauberk that is getting modified to fit right (adding slit and edging in leather). I have no problem wearing 30 lbs of "useless" weight, because I want to look accurate for what my ...

I think it was Fiachna that proposed a scenario where everyone had to bring a stuffed "person" (stuffed with batting or straw) with them and when they died, they would run out, grab their "second" and throw him roughly where they were (or stay until Hold was called, and then the Hold lasted long eno...

Depends on what you want to use for the maille. If you are simply doing butted, you can get a 1/4 mile of 17 ga. wire from Home Depot or 14 ga. from a farm store for just under $20. You then have to wind it into rings, cut those off, and then weave your design and style (aka. Euro 4-1, byzantine cha...

Is ^ how it hangs normally with only taking out a couple of rings width, and the weight of the maille drags it apart? Because if that is the case, it would seem that the shirt would "overlap" when laid out. Is this correct or am I just way off base? Do people take out triangles or just vertical rows?

Where does the slit go?
Hey all, I just picked up a butted maille hauberk from Von Sussen at GW, and am starting to actually getting a chance to modify it to fight in. Right now, there are no slits and it just hangs straight down. I have heard varying opinions on how wide these are supposed to be and how high. It is 8mm ri...

Duke Max leaps quite often. It is really deceptive and you usually dont realize he is in the air until you hear the thunk against the back of your helm. . Sir Kenneth also had a "Flying Weasel" attack a while ago, which started out about 8 ft away from the opponent and waited for Lay On, and the opp...

First Helm Options wanted
Hey guys, I have a friend who is looking around for his first helm out of loaner. I can only remember a few armourers, and cant find the thread that has the alternatives. Trying to keep him out of a spuntop. His MAX upper range is 200 but is really looking for something around the 100-150 range. Con...

And for the later periods, you must have been of noble birth to compete in a tournament. I am all for the not so much nobility (especially at wars). Once I get the three or four new guys here at Georgia Tech sufficiently reined in to be authorized, we have started to figure out how to do pitchforks,...

This Gulf Wars, when trying to get into the breach, we ran into about four scutums bottling up one doorway. I see Murdock (no not the one on this board, early Murdock), rap a couple of times with his sword and proclaim, "Hey, will you let us in? " This started the entire taunting every time we waite...

You could try sewing the straps onto the leather. There might be a small problem with riveting through links, but if you laid the links flat, you could probably take some sinew or waxed linen thread and sew it on. Not sure exactly how strong it would be though. What are you strapping on your hauberk?
