actually they know I'm a member of the SCA.
It seems to be when SCA/Reenactors approach people who have spent a decade or more in study and hands on research as though the SCA is the source of all wisdom......

Visby 1361
Very Very Cool. I love the work done by the armorers who equipped the Battle of Visby. I have been in communication (today even) with the Museum where the Gauntlets (and most of the rest I believe) reside. I am attempting to produce a pair of #3's as close to the originals as possible. The Amazingly...

Love the thread.... Ok, so which is worse: 1. Person new to SCA wearing X out of place/time/reality through ignorance. 2. Person old to the SCA who corrects newbie with opinion or "urban legend" armor knowledge. and I like the earlier post that suggested that people define their statements. I sugges...

Interesting posts... First, I'd like to say that I really appreciate the fact that these divergent points of view can be discussed in courtesy and respect. In reference to the leather and weather comment. I have been wearing wax hardened leather as replacements for steel in my coat of plates for ove...

Reminder
Torvalder,
Just wondered if you had a chance to try the Wax hardening stuff we talked about and did you get the same strength as the bits I did for Tom?
Just wondering... I'm considering an experimental shield with wood backing using the "twice baked" thing...

Good Gentles....
Ok, Although I can appreciate the postings that attempt to get people to wear authentic and or "correct" kits..... I think that the person who was "critical" was suggesting that it is the armorers job to try to insure authenticity. Although I mostly agree with that concept, please remember that your...

"Modification" completed, helm delivered.
What took the most about this "mod" was coming up with a way to tie the long cheek bars to each other (My armor Master's concern) and the grill to the skirt (because the client felt it was better to weld in a bar, than explain the construction concepts to each marshall) without "ruining" the lines. ...

javascript:emoticon(':D') Wisby gauntlet location confirmed.
TALBOT Wins! I just received a very kind e-mail from the nice people at the Statens Historika Museum. They were able to confirm that the gauntlet is in their collection. They very nicely suggested that I refer to the book by Mr Thordeman, and then they would be more than willing to be of assistance....

Thanx folks
I really appreciate all the positive feedback. Couple updates: His Highness, having discussed with his councelers, has decided that to silence in advance, the objections of future marshall's... that the helm should indeed have braces from the twisted bar to the rear skirt. So, She's baaaack. I've tw...

that is certainly clear here. I was actually referring to Talbot's "a minor obsession" remark.
Thanks,

I neither have the time nor the tools to produce those beautiful pieces. They were purchased from and produced by Raymonds Quiet Press.

Helm Concerns
First, I would say anyone who makes armor for use that is not activly seeking any and all constructive feedback, is doing themselves and their clients a disservice..... With that said, I have the luxury of having his royal head to check against, he chose the height, and we set the pitch and yaw bala...

I am looking for more information about the evidence that lead to the determination that certain plates were under the covering material. With all thanks and acknowledgement of the skill of the folks at Raymonds Quiet Press who produced the Bronze work, I just "completed" this Riveted round top for His Highness Leothulf Prince of the Mists, West Kingdom, SCA. We have discussed "back welded" and blacked out supports for the long bars a...

Seeking specific pieces of armor and their physical location
If this is the wrong area, I do appologize. Please direct me accordingly.
I am doing a research project about the Wisby #3 gauntlet. I have not been able to find any reference online to their current physical location. Any ideas?
Stephan
