A nine foot hardwood pole bound in iron or brass at the ends.....and traditionally the early models were fairly thick....were they not? I think they could give most armoured guys something to think about. Yeah. They'd think about it for a second and then stab you in the harbles with their pollaxe. ...

SNIPPED: The *only* time I will do this is if I have legged my opponent, I have closed in, my left foot is basically in their crotch, I've pinned their shield with my lower body, trapped their weapon arm completely, while placing my right foot / leg almost behind them. Their face is basically shove...

Re: Body to Body
Hey Richard, I know you're the other guy, but I noticed it in your video. In dealing with some Meridians while training, I gained the impression that the kingdom's rules and or traditions strongly discourage body to body, close in rush and bump stuff. If that is correct, how come no one complained ...

It does pose the (sometimes extremely) reasonable question of can the wearer of the Real Armour judge blows properly for fighting in the SCA. I have no problem with the reasonable. It is the unreasonable I begin to have issue with. It is when OTHER people begin to call blows because the looked good...

Excuse me... I see you have real armor and not the SCA minimum. Can you feel those shots through that? Ummm, but we don't calibrate to SCA minimums. The calibration standard stated in the SCA guidelines is full blown 11th century armour. If we start calibrating to SCA minimums, virtually everybody'...

Perhaps I have simply been fortunate in meeting the Meridians I have; good people who are proud of their kingdom, are willing to recognize past problems real or perceived. who care about making it a better place and improving relations with other kingdoms. I'd also like to commend Thor, Logan and ot...

For $90, why not invest in actual armour? Or are you using these as hidden protection under early period garb/armour? Just curious. Thor does make quality modern offroad gear. Yes, it is a shame that the second idiot insisted on being hit that way before he would accept a blow. Much praise to Logan for demonstrating restraint in giving the opponent a plethora of lighter blows in the 'good' range to consider before moving to calibration levels his opponent clearly request...

Some of it is just attitude and what is culutrally acceptable. I've heard for years that the Atlanta group is the 'problem child' in all this but I have no idea if that is true. I do know that I watched a Meridian knight curse and yell some poor slub at Blackstone Raids just a few weeks ago because...

So it seems, from within and without, that Meredies HAD some issues with calling light. It also seems that, even from the people who witnessed that it HAD happened, that it hasn't happened in some time, certainly not any time recently. I am glad this is so because I was mightily confused. The Sunda...

Those who have been following the announcements and discussions of the CA aspects of this battle and asking about the final implementation, should read section 6.2. Thank you for the information Dietrich. I'm not interested in politics or drama either. Have been inadvertantly responsible for some drama over the decades I've been in the SCA, I've made it my mission in life as an older knight to identify areas that cause interkingdom friction, try to verify if th...

Fighting culture also varies widely within Meridies itself. There are indeed those who play what amounts to touch-kill, and expect everyone else to play that way too. ...rest snipped for brevity... The current Met book sale dropped their prices Friday on some of the journals, including the one with the shield article, down to $1 per book. I got to fight Sir Richard Blackmoor at Coronation a few weeks ago, and one of the thigs I loved was that he grinned. The entire time. I had the pleasure of fighting a number of Meridians at Gulf Wars this year. Including knights Seth (king at the time), Prince Godwine, Duke Max, Thomas Blackmoore and some unbelts. It's simple - just require all spectators to pass armour inspection. Bob III, Emperor of the Silly Stick. That brings up an interesting point. I discussed this with Omarad before and during Gulf Wars and the interpretation was posted to remove any remaining doubt in anyone's mind about what the intent of the rule is. In simple terms, the field needs to be set up so that spectators do not get shot. The reason Omarad or the others who wrote ...
