Well the "powers at be" meaning boyfriend and his father wouldn't let me make it out of wood. *glares in their general direction* I'm probably going to scrap that one unless I can salvage it for other armoring purposes but I'm not sure. I'll prolly just go and buy a sheet of steel when I can and get...

Hee hee I'd be afraid I'd drop the shield once it got struck. It had a basic heater shape before the dolt got ahold of it. Once I can get my upper body strength back with this one, I'll start experimenting on other ways to hold it. It was supposed to be 24" x 26" but noooooooo it's 24" by I have no ...

We had the "I don't need your help I'm not a little girl I know how to use power tools" argument after we got home. Hopefully that'll stick.

Love the photo. And if my printer wasn't broke I'd print it out and put it up in the house :)

The second one is the front of the shield.

The first one you can clearly see that crease that moron put in it.

Well I didn't end up going with wood made it out of metal. Not sure what the gauge is on it but it seems pretty sturdy. It's not completely done yet. There's no hand guard, arm strapping or edge protection. That unfortunately had to wait. And can I just please rant for a minute? I started out wantin...

I've decided I'm going to go with a flat plywood shield that one day I will cover the front in leather. That would probably be the easiest for me to do since the rest of the armor is gonna take it out of me when I start.

Looking for 14th century Scotland female garb patterns...

or any images that could help me in construction. I'm going to try to find some time during the week to go to a library to research it further but am hoping one of the fine people here could set me on the right track. The stuff I've found online hasn't helped me out at all. Any help is appreciated. ...

Samuel: I wish I could go up there but unfortunately the car I have sucks up so much gas it's unreal. I had to fill it up the next day from a trip to Denver and back and that's only round 60 some odd miles. that and a hubby who gets jealous when I talk to any guy bout anything. Infuriates me but tha...

There in lies the dilemma. The first shield I ever had was a plywood one, it was flat, HUGE and heavy to carry. The left handed fighter that gave it to me was extremely tall and had more arm strength. The 2nd one I had was a steel or aluminium given to me by then King Artan and was a lot lighter to ...

Question about shield construction

Hi all. I'm going to be making my armor next Saturday and want to start with the shield first. I pretty well know what I want it to look like and the size I want it to be but have a question about edging. Before I go on this is a metal shield. Before you bend it into shape and whatnot what do you do...

Looks a hell of a lot nicer than the blah bascinet I bought 10 or 11 years ago. But it was cheap and I needed a helm.

See this is how new I am to armoring. I can't judge a finished piece by a piece in progress.

Course I would never make a helm, I'd rather leave that to the professionals.

Can't wait to see it all finished :)

I can't remember what the SCA regs on gauge on a helmet but as long as a stick of rattan can't get in through the holes made by the pattern i'd think it should be fine. Tho the noseguard (forgive my ignorance if there's a better term for it) doesn't look attached at the bottom. As long as that doesn...

Thank you that should help me out quite a lot. The only experience with armor making I have is attaching a chin strap and buckle to a helm, making leather vambraces and rembraces and leather upper legs. I'm looking forward to actually working with metal. I wish i had the tools and supplies right now...

Question about elbow cops

I'm new to making armor and have looked at a lot of patterns and was wondering...is it possible to make an elbow cop all in once piece without the riveting, welding and whatnot? I was thinking about once I can get the materials just dishing in the center of it. Would that be practical or am I comple...
