Hmm.. Different kingdom different marshals I suppose.
The warband I fight with is Roman based and they've had a few problems. The kingdom just allowed low-profile thrusting tips and I think they are just going overboard. That's why I mentioned for Swift_Steel to check with his kingdom rules first.

Owen.. If you look at the back of your typical roman helm how it flairs out a little bit. The marshals have been getting very strict with these helms with your typical gorgets saying that raised fan is alowing too many hits to an unprotected neck (however we have yet to have any injuries with these ...

As you can see from Norman's suggestion I'm in the same boat you are. First off what kingdom are you in? Some of the legonaire helms have a problem in my kingdom (caid) due to the fan on the back of the helms. I'm going with a later period (fall of rome) style cavalry helm. See the thread here.. htt...

I personally don't need a segmentatta kit (where were you last year??) but A friend of mine is looking to get a steel one. I'm looking to see about getting a set of Cavalry greeves with modified hinged knees that will pass SCA standards for knee protection. See thread here.. http://www.armourarchive...

Roman Greeves with Hinged knees (X-Post)
From this thread here.. http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/Forum1/HTML/006959.html It was pointed out that there are records of Roman Greeves with hinged knees. I've done a bit of searching for some historical record of these but I can't seem to find any. Does anyone have any info? Links to pictures o...

There really isn't one. From SCA armour standards. <I>Arm Armor: a. The elbow point and bones at either side of the elbow joint must be covered by a rigid material underlain by at least ¼ inch (6 mm) of resilient padding or closed-cell foam, by a shield, or by an approved equivalent. This armor sha...

Ok.. I wanted to get an opinion for you guys. I'm in the process of putting together my new rig for SCA combat. Late Roman (close to fall of the empire). I've got everything taken care of except leg defenses. My delema is that from everything I can tell.. There really wasn't and leg armour. Unfortun...

Come on guys.. Play nice.. Muttman has chosen plastic. You may not like it but he did ask for an opinion on COVERED plastic. He's not contemplating running around in blue smurf armour. As far as uses. I know some guys who've made some covered breastplates with kydex.. They don't seam to have any pro...

Also.. It it's not an "emergency" situation where you need something immediately.. Find an armourer you like and ask nicely. More than likely if they have a slot comming up soon they will tell you about it. Point in case.. I talked to Adam last week. Sent him an e-mail telling him I really like his ...

SCA helmet construction (new laws in caid)
The following was sent out to all commanders in caid.. My question is for normal helmet construction is this normally something that is looked at and people have just been lazy in my area? Or is this something that everyone will have to take into consideration? <B> Greetings Here is a reply from Sir...

I have the same one.. There are two screws near the blade. You just tighten them up and the pressure from the wood holds the blade in.

Getting back in the sadle
Well.. After a few months of intense laziness.. I finally got my butt back into armour this weekend. A good friend came out to visit from Colorado so him and another buddy all came over to my house and we suited up and scared the nieghbors. Had a good 2 1/2 - 3 hours of fighting going on. Felt great...

The SCA is what you make of it. Personally I first started out in the West when I was in college in the bay area. I was helping a friend out by teaching some of his karakte classes for him (been in off and on for almost 20 years now in 3 different art forms). He was in the SCA.. I was a big boy back...
