Another 'old school' method is to use hose (garden, or other semi tough material). Cut it to the length you wish, split a hole big enough for your stick to pass through, and tape in place, ends curved up. Tape to decorate. I've done this again recently with pretty decent results. For extra rigidity,...

In Forgotten Sea we've used interlocking foam mats during indoor months. Not unlike those sold here:

For info regarding 14th C. Scots, I'd recommend this thread.

Re: Coat of Plates Questions
First of all, would it be a passably period piece of armor for an early 14th C Scottish Highlander? I've wondered about that piece as well. It doesn't 'seem' right, but I am certainly no expert. Second, on the construction of this piece, I was going to make such an item using 3/16 - 1/4 inch plasti...

We have a fighter in my Barony that fights with two swords - modu (spelled wrong). It's pretty fascinating to watch. That style is colloquialy called "Florentine"; two weapons -- usualy swords -- no sheild. I was thinking of a two-handed sword when I thought of this thread. I wasn't sure there was ...

Following the letter of the law... I think it would be legal. Your best bet is to talk to an SCA marshall and ask them. They hold the final word, and deal with this type of issue frequently. My guess is that there are a few that frequent this board, so I'll step out and let them -- or more knowledga...

Re: Company of the Phoenix
Has anyone got some pics, links to sites, etc of coat of plates??? I think I posted this in your other thread as well, but in case you missed it there... =) m Another couple -- m m Avoid the ones that look too much like that which Mel wears in BRAVEHEART. From what I understand, and if I'm mistaken...

Yes Windrose and Mandrake are the same gauntlets. They are the best you can get for a reasonable price. Money well spent, if you like your hands. I also vouch for Gregs gauntlets. I've had a pair for 10+ years and have never had worries about my hands. IMO, it is indeed money well spent. Totaly fir...

Re: Helm???
Not sure of the name of the helm, but it is domed with chainmail around the bottom to cover the neck... My guess is you're describing a bascinet. What's the go with a heavy padded jacket??? Here is a good look at brigandine armor from the inside and out. While it most certainly can be covered in thin leather, velvet seems to be a more common outer layer. Browse these links, both are quite informative. (I deeply want one myself!) m m What I think you might be after is a Coat of Plates. ...
