After reading through this discourse it makes me think fondly of those innocent days long ago, I remember over twenty years ago a young 17 year old fighter in Caid goes to his first war ( actually first of any event, I wasn't even authorised yet, oh those loose law days ) it was pre-estrella north o...

When I fight new fighters (not first time!) I go by this rule, if I can easily hit them with a shot I do so then I immediately teach them how to counter it. I also do the same thing if I see they can't seem to hit me, I teach my weaknesses, this does two things, they know I am not there just to be a...

Ok, my take. One I have seen no ruling that directly prohibits what his grace describes. Now from personal opinion, I have always been more a warrior than a fighter in my years in the SCA, I love melees, and as a fighter and a marshal I feel the rules are there to keep a reasonably safe environment ...

Searching for NCOs
I am just seeing what this question will bring I am a retired NCO and if the mediviel knights where roughly equivilent to the modern officer, what where the mediviel NCOs? The term NCO I have researched back to around the 18th century in germany (feldwebel, oberfeldwebel, etc) I am pretty sure the t...

I use an army strap (being a retired army guy I was used to them) I modified them by drilling holes through the tightening tabs and putting leather thong through the hole. That way when its on my head it is easy to tighten I just hook a finger through the leather loop and pull sets really tight that...

I am so far still loving the discussion, even when it tends to go slightly off topic. I will say this though, this may not be my forum but it is my question and I ask that no personal attacks here! I can't stand when a lively debate turns to a I hate you stupidity, if I didn't want to hear different...

If you want to "fight" someone with weird non-European or of questionable period weapons like a Madu, or have a persona disrespectful towards the theme of the SCA, then go somewhere else and play (if you insist on having a non-European persona then when you come to our party, play by our rules). I j...

Labels is why I started this discussion, I know that I can't convince others what they think my style is, I am correcting myself. I had realised that I accepted what others had called the style I had seen without researching or anything, in other words being a lazy idiot. When I found this out I was...

Like Brenden said you fight with what you are confortable with and what makes you think you win more. I don't know if I win more but fighting spear and sword has been the most comfortable fighting style I have tried. I just felt that the style was misnamed and after studying and reading here I am su...

So far thanks! I am happy with the responses on this subject. On the particulars the above mention of madus being not made with metal is so far correct as I havn't found any, my mistake, though it again makes me not want to call what I fight with a madu. I do like the cult of the madu answer because...

So how many types of madus' are there?
I am recent joiner to the list so I don't know if this has been discussed before but I am curious: Why is every off-hand weapon that is longer than 3' seemed to be called a madus? The madus was an indian weapon that consisted of a buckler with blades/points attached up and down from it. I really don...
