Nice to see some period footwear out there. What type of stich did you use, from the looks you did what I did and used a stitching awl and did a lock stitch. Or did you use a running stitch on it? ------------------ --Edric-- Flos est puellarum, quam diligio, et rosa rosarum, quam sepe video. "My lo...

This sounds like a pretty good idea, if you need more you can also get those packs of 30 shop cloths or something like $3 at wal-mart. The cotton really more soaks up the sweat instead of drawing it away, it will still be touching your body, but it will be in the cotton instead of on you. This is a ...

Plumes
I need ideas for attaching a plume to a greathelm. The helm will be used in SCA combat so it needs to be securely attached. I may possibly make a mantle and attach the plume to that, but I have rather vague ideas on how to do it either way right now. Thanks ------------------ --Edric-- Flos est puel...

Magmaforge-yes they should, I measured them improperly when putting them in. Baculus-It is 7.1oz unbleached linen from www.fabric-stores-online.com quite a wonderful website. Just make sure you pre-wash the linen before you start sewing it up, it tightens up the weave and the fabric also becomes MUC...

Pavillion (pics)
These are some pics of the pavilion I am constructing. My lady bought the top at a garage sale for $25. It is one of those big 10' umbrellas that hang from a frame that have been getting popular, the frame that came with it is broken but I am thinking about fixing it to help with set up. I made the ...

Looking for a bascinet
I know this is a long shot, but I am currently in the market for a bascinet either pigface or globose for $200 or less. This will be for SCA combat, so I am looking for around 14 ga mild or better. ------------------ --Edric-- Flos est puellarum, quam diligio, et rosa rosarum, quam sepe video. "My l...

Rattan Sword with Anshelm fittings(pics)
This is my finished sword. The fittings are from Anshelm Arms . I had to shave the rattan down quite a bit to get the fittings on. The crossguard is held on with a hose clamp as you can clearly see, and the pommel is held in with a woodscrew and gorilla glue. To finish the handle I measured the dist...

This is what I have been doing at home this summer, or part of what I have been doing. Leather is about 4.5-5 oz oil tan and the artificial sinew whipstiching is purely decorative. 14th century Half Harness(pics)
This is my halfway completed 14th century harness I have been working on for about the past 6 months, other than a generic coat of plates, this is my first armor. The breastplate and backplate are Ron Simmons, as are the elbows, eventually the backplate will have brass, the front neck brass needs to...

Before you revert to sport armor PLEASE let me suggest a few things. First the gambeson. On the one you have now, sandwich the fabric between 2 pieces of leather where the point will be, then poke holes through it with a ice pick, this will greatly improve the strength of the points. Now make anothe...

Sheepskin for helmet padding?
I was wondering how sheepskin would work for helmet padding for an SCA helmet? and if so, how thick should the wool be? It will be going in a pembridge style helm. I was thinking of basicly making a coif with it. I am going to eventually make some padding with a mixture of linen tow, horse and donke...
