All your inputs are fine and good, and I fully understand that it's quite far from period; I should probably explain, though. I was not looking for a pouch clasp, I was actually looking for a clasp on the front of a gorget and mantle. The kit is a fantasy one anyway, somewhat drawing from ~13th, 14t...

Looking for swing clasps
I have been searching, to no avail, to find any ~1"x1" swing clasps, visually like the one in the link below. I just need 3 by May at the latest, could any of the highly skilled armor smiths on the forum assist me in finding somewhere to purchase some? They don't even really need to be swing clasps,...

rivet lengths for certain thicknesses of leather
I'm new to rivetting, how long should the rivets be to hold some leather firmly together but not very compressed? The total thicknesses I'm dealing with are 8oz, 10oz, 13oz, and maybe 20oz; I'm using multiple combinations of 3oz, 5oz and 10oz. Also, what do all of you do to cover the interior side o...

I thought about that and read up on fluting steel, but I've never understood how you can flute a circular piece. Do you flute a flat piece and then curve it? Also, I seem to be running into some snags making the lames conform to the correct shape. I've found patterns for single-piece bracers and vam...

Exactly right, Kat. As for the method, I've been experimenting with two popular methods that I've read about; one where you case the leather then bake it dry, the other where you case it, "boil" it in ~200 degree water, and bake it dry. Each has had its benefits and downfalls in the project, and I h...

Cutting hardened leather
I'm making a set of fantasy armor(I know...); the problem I'm running into right now is the vambraces. Essentially, I'm trying to get 4-5 lames running along the forearm, with 5 ridges running the long way down. I've been trying to figure out how to get the ridges pointed, and it's been like reinven...
