Maybe I'm wierd, but I actually enjoy pulling out all the armour for the occassional polish/maintenance session. Same thing with my guns - I enjoy cleaning them after shooting. To me it's not a chore.

Thanks Raselsnarf! I'm going to go back and fill in the face opening after I get the rest of it done. But actually, I'm liking the way it came out. I can either tuck the chin opening under my chin if I desire, or let it set across the top of my chin just the way it is. When it's tucked under my chin...

If you decide that making one is too much hassle, I really like the one I bought from Wessex County Wares:

Ah, how well I remember it. It was Pennsic last year - one of the battles on Wednesday. It was my only bought of the war. I donned my armour, took up my sword and shield, and made my way through our lines in search of the Meridien banner. Low and behold, I found it. Being not much of a fighter, I mo...

All: I worked on my riveted coif some more tonight. It is nearly finished. I should have it done this week. I'm going to submit it in Kingdom Arts and Sciences at the end of this month! This is a one-shot entry - once it's been submitted at the Kingdom level it can't be entered in a smaller regional...

I would advise against using a propane torch or other fire - you will soften the metal of the helm and undo any work hardening you have in it. This means your helm may dent more easily.

When I was gluing padding to the inside of my plate armour (and I'd still recommend doing it on the inside of elbow cops - period or not) I used foam padding, covered with upholstery velvet. I glued this to the inside of the plates using 3M weatherstrip adhesive - works great and sets up quickly. Yo...

I will have ready-to-rivet rings for sale sometime after August, 2001. No hard feelings, Hammered Wombat! I did not enter into the decision lightly. I got into this whole thing to learn and teach. And I still will teach! I agree about more length on the aventail/coif.
I'd like to see a "whole body shot" too!
I also am interested in your hidden armour.

Nah, SoFC is just a wannabe compared to Erik. He is the best maille maker in the world that I know of and have seen the work of. I take numerous shortcuts and come up with a riveted maille that is only quasi-authentic. I think it's still pretty good, mind you, but it's not 100% like Erik's is. Thank...

Ernst: I'd agree with most of that.
