"Steve, is the wedge used because of ease?" This, of course, is the 6 million dollar question. I don't know why they used a wedge rivet instead of a round one (or vice versa). I think piercing a tear through the metal is easier than punching a hole. When punching, one needs relatively precise punch...

Take a look at this picture here: http://www.forth-armoury.com/photo_gallery/Damage_Test/damage.jpg It will help you see the weave. Also check out the numerous maille tutorials on the web. Many ha...

The current riveted maille coming out of India isn't awful . It's actually fantastic for the price. But they do only flatten the overlap, which in my opinion adds to the "beer can tab" look. Also, they dip the stuff in a zinc-based paint which gives it that shiny grey look. But this also gives excel...

I highly recommend Sir Erika down in Trimaris. She sells completed arrows for not much more than you can buy the components for them. A "completed" arrow is not actually complete - it is a fiberglass shaft with the fletches and nock glued on. Assuming you order blunts, you get those separately. You ...

"could you flatten the rings prior to welding?" Yes, in fact you could. However, current metallographic evidence for European styled welded rings seams to indicate that they "flattened" the overlap from OD to ID, not in the plane of the ring, as my examples are. "Eastern" welded rings (see http://w...

Basically, the rings look like butted rings, but there is a blob of solidified, once-molten metal at the butt joint.

What are the rivets above the eyes for? Helm liner? If so, why do they not go all the way around the helm?
