I can advise buying a cement bucket (big one, 80 litres or so) and using a saw to cut a gorget from it that'll fit better. The plastic on these buckets is very thick (4mm). I don't know if that is enough for SCA though. It's a very cheap solution, the buckets cost about 6 euros here, and you can eas...

Hello, I think it's very well possible the blade clogs during cutting, however on inspection it doesn't show any signs of clogging. I'll probably try the lubricant next time. The aluminium work hardening is a thought that occured to me as well. I tried to shape part of the blade with the angle grind...

Aluminium waster - cutting problem
Hello everyone, I am currently trying to make a waster from aluminium bar stock but I'm having quite a bit of problems getting the blank sawn. It's a simple flat aluminium bar, 8mm thick ( I think that's about 5/16"). I started the cutting with a hacksaw, but that turned out to be very time consumin...

A friend of mine advised me to use a product called 'zebraline' to blacken my armour. it's a sort of toothpaste like stuff that is also used to protect for instance cast iron stoves from rust. I bought mine in a 'fireplace shop', a small black tube, brandname 'eclair noir'. it's supposed to give goo...

The Latex paint i'm using is a special pure latex, unlike the DIY stuff you'd use to paint houses. Unfortunately, the can I bought it in does not have a brand name on it, but if you'd like, I could contact my shop and inquire about a brand name. The advantage of this paint is that, after having appl...

Hey, interesting. I am currently in the process of setting up something similar over here in Holland. What i'm opting for is a similar construction padded waster, weighed and balanced to have the same sort of feel like an european steel sword. Since this means blunt trauma could be a problem, as wel...

thanks, I really enjoy finally having found a place where people are as enthousiastic about building armour as I am. Although I currently still work in a small leaky shed in my mother's back yard (my student room is much too small and noisy to work there) and with alack of both proper tools and mone...

thanks for the quick reply, small problem is the fact that there's about 1000 kilometres and somehting like 5 country borders between these guys and where I live (Amsterdam, Holland)... I have in fact found a small SCA group here in the netherlands, perhaps they've got people making armour. It appea...

Gorget safety
Hello Everyone, I started building armour about a year ago, and I am currently trying to set up a small SCA kingdom here in the Netherlands. Unfortunately, I have yet to come across someone who has any experience in building armour, so I have to mostly rely on my own experience in building armour. H...
