Leather Segmented Breastplate Help

I'm currently working on a leather breastplate (first one) and I'm a bit apprehensive about my design. It's a 4-5 piece assembly, upper chest, upper back, lower back, 1-2 piece stomach. I was going to harden them, but as this is for fighting in (Boffer combat), I'm afraid hardening/baking the armor ...

:) If you do draw something, please share, as I'm curious of what it would look like! I'm in the process of lining the helm-aventaille connections with deerskin so it's a bit more asthetically pleasing.

Coloring Armor Grade Leather White?

I've recently been comissioned to create a helmet for someone, but they want the helmet's primary color to be white, and secondary color to be dark green. The green is no problem, but I've heard bad things about "white" dyes and I'm considering trying paint. Does anyone have experience with coloring...

Figured I'd might as well post my new pics. Made a brass plumata drape for the back of the helm. Might need to do some expansions, but it feels fine for now. Working on a matching leather segmented cuirass. http://i123.photobucket.com/albums/o305/Exol/Back-Scale.jpg Back of Helmet http://i123.photob...

Heres the front w/ Nasal.... I guess I could have made it a bit flashier. Just another thing to work on for the next piece.

No, still no dish and hammer. I'm saving for some now, but still fairly broke. I shaped the helmet on a round object (I used a volley ball) and just baked 10 mins; formed; baked 10; formed; baked 20; formed then let it dry at room temp for an hour (times are not exact). The spangens on the inside ar...

Here's the finished project.... It didn't turn out like my drawings, but it could have been worse for a first attempt. Dye didn't hold well on the pre-hardened leather (I normally pre-dye when wet). I'm working on a non-armor drape for the back/sides (like a spectacled spangelhelm's camail). I'm pro...

Eek, been out of town :) I'm using 10/12 ounce leather and have made a few pieces so far, so I'm not completely lost, just not very experienced. I really can't afford dishing tools atm. So I'm probably gonna give it a try w/ hand forming....

No, I'm going to use an all-leather design as I've not yet gotten into any metal armorworking. Guess I'm gonna have to save up for a dish and hammer :X.

Leather Spangenhelm (Completed) :)

Hello, I've been trying to figure out how to make a leather spangenhelm for a few days, but have a few problems. The inside section of the helm, does every dish theirs like they would metal? Or is there a way to do it w/out dishing? I'm assuming each panel is a different piece of leather. Is it 100%...

Seeking Forged Steel dishing forms+dishing hammers

I'm looking to acquire forged steel dishing forms and dishing hammers that can be used with both leather and metal. If anyone knows where I can find this or sells this please let me know, thanks.

Will using the leather strip method cause the lames to be too loose or should it hold the lames in position fairly well? Has anyone actually made leather pauldrons in the fashion who can share their experience?

Leather Pauldron Problem

Recently I've been getting into hardened leather armor making (have done maille for 5-6 years). I started with bracers, then made some formed greaves and recently tried something new, articulating pauldrons. I'm just doing one shoulder first, to avoid wasting leather incase it doesn't turn out well....
