An Tir's rules specifically stated something to the effect of: "Placing your shield in such that your opponent must hit in order to throw a normal blow is forbidden". I used to do this a lot with a strap on round shield, I would get in real close plant my chest against my opponents shield, stick the...

Hahaha.. that looks COOL! At an event last year some of us got together and made two "horses" out of hay bails (take two hay bails, put on one top of the other). We then sat on the horses and fought, if you're foot touched the ground you had been knocked off your horse and you lost the match. Lots o...

One thing you can do if you cant get the thickness of rattan you want: Take a length of rope, fold it over. Wrap this in duct tape. Lay this along both edges of the sword and then tape it on. If you use 2" rattan and 1/2" rope you will now have a blade that is 3" wide and about 1" thick on the edges...

Funny thing... Im pretty sure that our Kingdom rules allowed these things on a case by case basis. I was told by the marshalls that the punch buckler was a very dangerous weapon (I agree) and that the one guy that I had fought who was using one (in conjuction with a greatsword) was the only fighter ...

Actually I believe they did kind of exist in period.. ever see a lantern shield? I will not argue with you that they are MORE effective in SCA style fighting then they would be were we really fighting with real weapons... I totally agree. I also agree that we should be using weapons and armor approp...

Actually some times I zone out so much that I can hardly remember any of my fights. Many times my friends have been doing the blow by blow account of fighter practice and I'm sitting there thinking "ok, if you say so...". Course, maybe I should have partied less after High School (before and during ...

Actually, I did pretty much exactly what you have described. I always called it "Using the Force". Back when I did more traditional Martial Arts I used to work on de-focusing a lot, basically I would "look" at the middle of my opponents torso and try to see everything at once. As for what has change...

Wrong. It is NOT totally ineffective.. quite the opposite in fact, if you know what you are doing. I have fought against one of these, used with a greatsword and let me tell you.. ineffective is not a word that I would use to describe it. I think the legality question is one for your particular king...

What do you look at???
So, I have been fighting in the SCA for the last ten or so years... For a vast majority of that time I have been doing it pretty much blind. My vision uncorrected is around 20/200. I can see fairly well within about three feet, but outside of that things get really blurry. In the past I didnt really...

Im assuming that he is having computer problems again... thats why I sent a letter through the regular Snail-Mail. I sent it last week, so assuming three days either way Im expecting that my armor should be here sometime around the end of the week. I will let you all know if this works or not. Cedric

I have found that the best exercise for me to do to get ready for fighting is, well, FIGHTING. Cant motivate myself to much else (besides the making love thing). Oh, and Mike, if you REALLY want to piss the old lady off while you are having sex, why not just call her and tell her what you are doing?...

Had the cops shut us down one time at a practice in Santa Cruz... Far as I know they had been having practice in the same parking garage for a number of years, the local group had permission from the owner to practice there. One night a new cop shows up and asks us what we are doing. We tried to exp...

Ok, look at Sir Oak in this picture http://www.antir.sca.org/WhosWho/p034.htm I could be wrong, but I am almost 100% positive that that is plastic armor covered with some form of leather and edged the way I described above. I will get some pictures before covering and a close up of the covered stuff...
