Re: A Question of Grace
Quick correction (GOD I miss that Edit button.....), I will sometimes yield after an arm shot at practice or in pickups (same thing really), mainly because I don't care to deal with the whole switching arms thing.
I prefer fighting with counted blows, but most SCA events do not use those rules.

Re: A Question of Grace
i had thought long on this question considering the prior topic about 2 wounds and out. Should I have the opportunity in a list to leg a foe I will endeavor to ask if he will yield. If he answers no I shall offer an "act of chivalry" and ask him to rise and continue the fight on his feet....

Re: A Question of Grace
Guess this in another Interkingdom Anthropology thing. I "grew up" fighting in An Tir, where this kind of thing is generally frowned upon. Our Kingdom rules have this (under optional conventions): "It is highly discouraged for a fighter with a long range weapon to take their opponent'...

You haven't "established dominance" until one of you has won. Legging someone, and then stepping out of their range and declaring "I win, you can't hit me" is not how I choose to play. Personally, I prefer to best my opponent in such a way that they still have a chance of fighti...

Re: A Question of Grace
The point of fighting is to have fun and best opponents. If I leg you and drop back out of your range because you decline to yield, poking at you until you miss a block or get tired is just... dull. Let's start the fight again and have fun. If it means I have to yield because you think you can best...

Re: Maximum Coverage ZoomBang SHORTS AVAILABLE NOW
To get this back on topic, fought in the shorts for the first time tonight. Overall I have to say the protection is great (had a bit of plastic on my thighs, but got some really good hip shots that I could barely feel through the padding). Has anybody found a good way to wear a cup in these things? ...

Not "dumb" exactly. I will say that having to carry a piece of paper in order to fight is one of the more annoying aspects of SCA fighting that I wish we could do without. Marking sides and/or inspection status with pieces of tape on the side of peoples helmets, having to sign in at every ...

Re: Regent vs Marquee canvas period tent
I have a 15x21' marquee that I set up by myself all the time. It's not that hard, just takes some time due to having to hammer all the stakes.
If possible I do like to get help putting up the ridge pole, but it is definitely doable with one person if you take your time and walk the two uprights up.

Re: Chainmaile or Gamberson
Doesn't maille heat up real bad in the sun? I am thinking of pennsic in this particular instance. Do you wear a tunic over it? The problem at Pennsic is not the sun heating up your armour. It's the 98% humidity. Nothing like a good sauna to really make fighting fun. I now fight in mail, with a Zoom...

I very seldom use a rivet set to peen a rivet, but I like using them to set the little washer down on the post before peening. There are a lot of other ways to do it (pliers, small wrench etc) but I have always found the rivet setter to be the easiest. @ Cedric: I called Eugene Leather today, and th...

Part of the testing Sir Omarad is doing is to put it in a freezer for an hour or so. If that doesn't answer it I'll find out, but frankly, I just don't plan to fight if it's below freezing. Blackbow Still, would be good to know so people don't leave their gear in a freezing garage or something...
