I've been to both BR and Panhandle... On the "miserable" factor, Border Raids wins hands down. Panhandle is usually miserably hot, BUT the humidity is different, plus it cools down in the evening as the Gulf air comes in. The mosquitoes are large enough to carry away small children, the sand fleas l...

T-bob - The easiest way I found to print the thing on one page is to go ahead and right click on it, and "save-as" on your hard drive. Then go into word, open a blank document, then insert-image-from file. It will autosize it to 8.5x11 standard page. In Service, Aidan ------------------ How did the ...

I didn't make Border Raids last year becuase I was at Arabian Nights getting squired http://www.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif I intend to be this year, although I must say I am not looking *that* forward to it. I don't know if there is a slack in attendance because I've only been around for 4 year...

I guess the reason i have my doubts that it will work on me is because (1) I have no arse (2) theres not much difference in size between my hips and my legs So in my minds eye, its just gonna slide down. I am going to attempt to make one though and see if it will work on someone else... I love the l...

btw - this pattern works well in leather too. Sir Baras made some metal ones similiar to this from a very very similiar pattern, and I copied it and made some leather ones. Where the weld is on the metal, just stitch the leather. You can harden with wax or water, or even put a smaller dished metal c...

T-bob: I think thats where the largest part of my confusion is - the tension. Is the blue 1/2" belt a part of the white sword belt? I've never seen the right side of any of the sword belts, so I don't know. I'm assuming so, because otherwise only one side of the white belt is above the hip. I know i...

hanging a sword
I've seen this in AAotMK in several examples, and thought I was just not seeing it right. I know its got to be something simple, but what keeps the sword belt from falling off when its done like this: In Service, Aidan ---------...

Need help finding a Brig....
I was looking somewhere at work the other day and found some pics of a few really nice brigandines. I don't know if I found it from here, or from a google search, or what, all I remember was that the article was actually focusing on tinning the metal that was used in the brig. Does this sound famili...

Agreed, either way will work, however a few things to consider. If the braies/chausses are going to be worn as garb, wither way will work fine. If they are going to be worn under armour while fighting, you'll probably want the ties to go around the rope in the braies, or else they will just rip out ...

Steve of FC, question re: maille
Steve, I just got AAotMK and was looking through and found something interesting... You've probably answered this before and I apologize if this is a redundant question.. On page 176, there is a section of a riveted maille shirt, circa 15th century germany, that has a brass ring stamped "BERNART COU...

Question... and this is not taking either side of the "square or not square" debate.. jsut a question.. page 156 of AAotMK, bottom, shows a joust, and the shield is square. I've always thought that the lance was a tournament weapon that represented a spear, since it was my belief that a spear or oth...

Tip for a Sword with Quillions (SCA)
When I first started fighting with a sword with quillions, I had a problem with the sword coming out of my hand. This was for the following reasons : 1. I wasn't used to having to truely grip the handle 2. The weight distribution was different 3. I was taught to throw a shot and relax my grip, then ...

back to the original question... I had the same problem when I first started, and no one would call my shots (they were excessively light). I purchased some of those wrist wraps and would wrap my wrist real tight under my gloves. That kept my wrist from being able to "flick", therefore breaking the ...

My local HF doesn't carry the shear in stock anyway, and when I called about it they said it was a catalog only item, so you may not have any luck going to the store. When I ordered my shear it took several weeks, and I had ordered an extra set of blades "just in case" that took nearly two months to...

Knighthood, IMHO, is not rewarded, it is recognized. If you want to be a Knight, then be one. In every action, in every thought, in every tournament, in every ball, in every deed. When you close your eyes at night, tell yourself "Today, I was the best I could be." and then do better tomorrow. Its no...

If you kingdom states you MUST authorize S&S, then do so. But remember, the main point of authorization is to prove that you are not a danger to yourself or your opponent (i.e. tripping over own feet or flailing around like a ragdoll ) and that you know the rules of the list and conventions of comba...

That they use in the Airline industry for holding pieces together until they can be riveted? I remember you had to have a special tool for them and they had a funny name, but i couldn't find the post about them....
