The knee and below are not target areas and by default there is knee fighting, however other systems are allowed or alternate formats, such as points only to the waist and above, points thrown or received, traditional Pas formats, etc. Adrian tournaments are typically 2 out of 3 fights, so effective...

Adria splintered from the SCA in 1989 I think. From what I can tell, it was not so much dissafection with the SCA, but wanting to do something different - using steel swords, more armor and initially they were a single time period 1450 French court. I was told the originators also wanted to reenact ...

Fransisco, Depends a lot on the region. But there is a variety of skill level based on where you go and who's trained you. In our area there are many long time SCA solid unbelts who fight as well as my husband who is a KSCA since 1990 and started fighting rebated steel in Adria in 1999. We all still...

I agree, that rock's for the most part do tend to have a short sleeve, or just long sleeves attached, with both/either possibly worn over an underdoublet which might or might not have sleeves. What we don't see with men's rock sleeves is them tied on with big bows with a gap between the armscye and ...

Our soon to be Duke of Brandenburg, Sir Giachino Marone (Adrian Knight), produced the video and chose the music. He is very talented artistically (college theater professor and long time theater professional). He also teaches Marozzo, and I33, and is on the video fighting with a longsword. He also f...

We do German. Wide silk tied garters show up before the turn of the century in the continent. They are rampant in the early landsknect clothing. But there are examples of thinner tied garters on the English before 1530 and even later, there are varied widths. I'd imagine the German immigrants to Lon...

What's the general consensus on soy milk and seltzer water. Gwen, I agree with Maeryk. I did some research after going on the Nutrisystem diet for about 3.5 weeks. I was pretty hungry all the time (and the food was pretty gross and I had to modify most of it to be edible - within the plan of course...

I think that is what I like about wieght watchers vs standard calorie counters. It has some formula that takes into account calories, fat grams and fiber grams, so I find it helps determine the most bang for the buck. The dietary affect of a 250 calorie food with 25 fat grams and zero fiber vs a 250...

I recommend weight watchers on line. By logging your food and researching what you can fit in, it will help you figure out where you are blowing it and where you can save the most calories. Its pretty low cost and there is a diet community for guys. I know lot of people I know have been having weigh...

My husband did some research about finials and even did some statistics. There really are very few styles they used, 90% are variations on orbs: orb right at top - no flag pole, orb on cone, orb on top of flag, orb below flag. Sometimes the orb is a bit flattened (squished looking), sometimes has a ...

Thanks all! We are a small group, and while most of us have decent armor that is nice to show off, there are often newer folks or pickups that have random loaner gear or fantasy or sca-oid armor, which would be nice to hide so that the group looks more cohesive. We had some incidents where the battl...

Ideas for war tabards/surcoats
I'm thinking of making surcoats/tabards/jupons for our little warband. I've found a nice linen, now I just need to decide what style to do. I'd like to do a later period style. The cut would need to look good over a variety of armor. A number of us wear a fair amount of plate. I'll also need somethi...

For fighting with rebated steel swords, I had to have the metal cut away a bit in the area between thumb and forefinger to acheive a good grip. It still bottoms out, but the first thing that hits the handle is my hand, not metal. If your guantlets were a stock size made for men, your hand may be thi...

A wedge with a split front and back can be set up so that one side is open which would be a nice stage. m When it is set up like a shade, you can even hang drapes down from the center beam to provide a place for your child to sleep and hide non-period items. These could even be painted to look like ...

Sha-ul, Baskets are great and light weight storage. It helps if the older kids can help pack and load/unload. Otherwise canvas duffels would be good, even the younger ones will soon be able to help.
