Just a thought... But does anyone have experience on how well using brass grommets or eyelets on armour pieces would help protect lacings?

Ive never had a problem with sliced arming points and I dont use grommets. You would probly stand a better chance of keeping them intact if you did use them, though finishing the holes really well might prevent it also

What exactly are you wanting to point. Many times a piece of leather is riveted to the armour and then pointed through the leather instead of the metal.
See this illustration:

Saaaayyyy... I own a copy of that book....
I've been playing around with leather articulation to do something different from helmets for a change. After doing up some spalders this last week I was thinking that the lacing holes might look good trimmed in brass along with the lames. (And incidently increase the lacing lifespan) As opposed to buckles.

Gravett, Christopher. _The World of the Medieval Knight_ New York: Peter Bedrick Books, 1996.
As far as kids armour books go, I like this one a lot.
