End cap pipe fittings

I was looking to fabricate some large mushroom stakes. Like 8", 6", 4" diameter shroom stakes. I heard of people using the domed end cap fittings for steel pipes. Where do you find them at? I have called several pipe and steel companies and none of them have them in stock.

Is there a place on the internet that i can buy these? Am I calling them the right thing?

Thanks,

Landen

The ones I saw in that link were the very thin caps sch. 10 used on fence post tops.

You will need a sch. 80 pipe cap to pound on.

These are available from my local industrial supply.

You might try a pipe and fabrication company or a local welding supply in your area.Look for schedule 80 or better. Also if you have any friends working in some larger factories like processing plants or your local water plant you can try there. Good luck and welcome to the board.

I got mine at Lowes, but the same is available at Home Depot (curse their orange blood!) I wish I had a camera/scanner to show you what I did to make them. I had to file down the markings on the top and the two bumbs on the side to make them useable... about 20 minutes worth of work with a large file. The cap is attached to a six in ch piece of pipe, which is screwed into a base with 4 screw holes that I used to atach to my work bench. I have two sizes, asembled as thus:

^ - 1 1/2" pipe cap
| - 6" length of 1 1/2" pipe
__ - 1 1/2" base

or

^ - 3/4" pipe cap
| - 6" length of 3/4" pipe
_ - Reducer fitting 1 1/2" to 3/4"
__ - 1 1/2" base

The reducer allows me to use the same wide base for both sizes and interchange them if needed. So far it works great!
