I just finished peening the last rivet......I found this beautiful red hide, and it spoke to me.

I used brass rivets with the decorative brass washers that Revival offers...I really like how add a little "pop" to the coat.

Great job!! That is what I have been looking to do. What are the plates made of? Are you going to Glory?
Thanks for the pics,
Sean

I am going to Glory.....the theme is the Hundred Years War.....couldn't possibly miss THAT.
The plates I cut from some 16g SS I had laying around, so it's a bit of overkill, but it's no heavier than my last COP that was made from 18g Galvinized. I used Master Geoffreys pattern from the pattern archive, with one or two small differences.

Cool, maybe I'll see it up close at Glory. My COP is 16 gage galvanized, kinda heavy, no-where near as nice as yours.
Good job again,
Sean

Agreed. I have to finally get around to finishing my new CoP, but I never would've thought to edge out the leather like that. I'll have to remember that next time I put together a new shell.

Did you make the shell yourself or had some elese make it?
I like the decorative brass washers for two reasons. First they look cool, second they look like they will protect the leather from getting cut and torn out by the edges of the rivets (a problem I'm having with my ageing COP right now).

I did make the shell myself, sewn entirely by hand. I also made the one that this one is replacing, and used the edge treatment on that one as well, at the time, it seemed logical, I just didn't want the edges to stretch out of shape with use.

That looks Really Beautiful! Great work!
What weight leather?
As a side note:
My current one is made out of a oil tanned utility hide I had around the shop, it is around 4 oz or so, with plastic plates. I used basically the same pattern, except mine has squared off bottom edge and is only edged at the neck. I am currently making one out of canvas, because my leather one doesn;t breathe very well. I guess it is the nature of the armour!

The leather is chrome tanned 3 to 3.5oz with a medium soft hand.

Nice! The brass washers look so much better than the pennies I used.

It was someone here on the archive, I would have put his name but the quote was so long I ran out room to give credit. It was in reference to a deer that was found to have six legs after it was hit by a car.
