Hylian Spaulders

Post by ArtemisGreen »

Well, after a few days of designing and working, me and my brother, TemplarKnight, finished our pair of spaulders inspired by the game The Legend of Zelda. They're made out of 20ga galv, since I didn't want to waste anything good on this costume piece. We'll be re-painting them in a little while. The galv just looks horrible, even after I sand it off, so we decided paint wouldn't be too sacreligious, since it's only a costume piece. The planishing sucks on the cops, but the little lame thing above them turned out quite well. After a paint job, it'll be apparent how much better it really is. The triforce emblem was a @&%$# to flute, so it didn't turn out as nice as I hoped. Oh well, come Halloween night next year, nobody will notice in the dark when we're running around terrorizing Image .

Here's a couple of pics. That's Tristam wearing them.

Interesting. What are you going to be wearing these with? Are you are going to have some kind of foundation garment underneath like a gambeson or aketon? If so I would point them instead at the top of the cop with a semi-loose strap around the bottom lame.

It will allow for full mobility and the cop will seem to float on your body.

The rest is on it's way. I'm thinking a lightly padded gambeson for a foundation under a haubergeon, then Mystic Kavu's articulated breastplate. Tristam saw that and immediately knew that was going on our suit.

Definite additions will include a gorget, front greaves, vambraces or bracers, demi-gauntlets, and a modified spangen-type helm over a coif.

Possibilities include sabatons, tassets, articulated knees + demi-cuisses, and any other suggestions you fine gentlemen and ladies have to offer. We're open to suggestion, since there is a HIGH level of license we can take with this suit.

The spaulders seem to allow for enough movement as we have it. There is a strap on each side that buckles to the top of the cop on one side, under the opposing arm, then riveted on the top of the other side. There is also a loose strap on the bottom lame. Anyways, with that lame that goes above the cop, it would be kind of difficult to find a place that would allow it to be pointed to a gambeson.
