Two Question and a Find

One of my brothers friends was scavaging somewhere and he came acrossed a used metal hip replacement thing. My question is, is this going to be useable for a planishing stake? I'd assume that it is very strong scince it is used to be the hip. Then to tell you all about my find. Whenever we would go to my moms freinds house i would see this L&K scrap metal place and I had always wanted to go there to see what they had and what there prices are like. So on my school day off last week I went there with my step dad. We got there and turns out they said I could go back and get whatever I wanted. I went back behind and the first thing I found was a 4 1/2 by5 foot sheet of polished, stainless steel, 14 guage sheet. I havn't figured out what I am going touse it for yet. Any ideas?

Where the hell was he scavanging? A creamatorium or maybe digging up bodies in the graveyard? Last time I checked they just don't chuck out used human biological waste into the dumpster.

Could have been defective and not met spec. Some companies get very proactive about getting such an item out of their shop so that there is no chance that it will end up in somebody.

If the implant had been recovered from a crematorium it would be obvious, the piece would have a heavily carbonized outer layer.
A more likely explanation is it was a sales sample or a doctors office sample. The shaft probably will either be a Ti-Aluminum-Vanadium or Ti-Aluminum-Niobium alloy. Both are sugicly implantible.
The ball is probably Cobalt-Chrome-Molly. The newer ones are even made from different ceramics. These materials are chosen for their high wear qualities not their toughness or impact quality.
While the piece is interesting, planishing stake is not the first thought I would have had. It might be worth a few bucks to a titanium recycler... otherwise its just a cool thing to have around.
If you can find a laser-etch of a company name and part number I might track down the actual materials.
