Sword belts.

Post by Guest »

I think this belongs in this forum.

Any ways, anyone got good pics of cool looking sword belts, and any info on how to make one? I dont even have a sword lol but i want to make a neat sword belt. I dont have that much leather so would belt made out of maille with maybe leather and metal plates attached work? I dont care if a maille belt is not authentic. I want a decorated belt, not just plain maille that i could wear a sword on.

Meh, get more leather, a couple of belt blanks, or something, Vlad. A double-wrap sword belt such as is offered on Museum Replicas' site has plenty of coolness, and good function. A strip of mail doesn't offer very good torsional stiffness, and you need some to keep your sword handle end upwards. A cool early period sword belt can be found in the pages of Archaeology of Weapons, p.241, the chapter on The Sword in Wear, also a later variation on it on p.211.
