As much as it pains me. I need to look at sport armour for my legs due to my bad knees.

I am looking for something light and comfortable for the legs that will be worn UNDER my fighting pants and NOT exposed.

Right now looking at the "Crash pads" that WMA posted about a few months ago but from the looks of it I would need something for the knees. Anyone know of comercially availible knee-pads that would be suficiant for SCA combat?

Thanks for any suggestions.

And I would also like to add, just in case he's reading this post [img]http://forums.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif[/img]that while I do have a wonderfull set of legs made by our own horsefriend they were absolutely not the cause of my knee problems.

I wear a sport set of knee length gamboised cuisses with plastic Knee cops pointed to them... they are light, strong, and are easy to take care of.
Basically....you make a set of chaps that only go to the knee out of one layer quilted fabric and then point the kneecops to it... (which are sold by Capt. Jamie of By my Hand Armoury and Mandrake Armoury in the U.S. and by Me in Canada)
If you require more padding on the thighs...sew a pocket onto the outside of the cuisses and add plastic or leather plates to it.

Give Trent/Ivar a shout, he may be able to help you. He makes an all-HDPE leg with a three piece knee, laced like Japanese armour rather than articulating on rivets. Crazy light, very popular locally. THere's no pics on his site yet, but he may have some he can email you.

alternatively, if you didn't want to move to covered plastic, you could go to Titanium Legs.

Stronger and more dent resistant than Stainless. Won't rust. and not far at all from the weight of a plastic kit.

I have bad knees as well(dislocation) and have found that proper steel legs made to fit work far better than sports equipment. I have mine fitted so I can wear knee braces under them. In addition I have a simple 14th C style single knee that I can lace on that works well also. As for weight vs strength, spring steel would be the best and probably the strongest

A couple hears ago I ran across a set of plans online for fully-articulated steel legs which had been modified to allow a knee brace to be worn. Anyone have the link?

I have been planning on trying the crash pads that Adam at WMA uses as well. A set was bought for me as a gift and as soon as they arrive I will begin using them. I`ll post here after a few uses to give my impresions. I`m going that route because I wanted something lighter that would stay in place and not roll on me (the ultralight legs I`m using now do roll and as a result, most of my leg shots have nothing but fighting pants protecting me-OUCH! on the upside, my leg defense is improving!)
Since my persona wouldn`t wear any thigh armor to speak of, and since I do have considerable weight on my upper body, I do not look at this as an unfair "sports" advantage, so I do it with a perfectly clean concience [img]http://forums.armourarchive.org/ubb/smile.gif[/img]

I use street hockey pants w/plastic knee's pointed to them. nice thing about the hockey pants built in cup!!! [img]http://forums.armourarchive.org/ubb/wink.gif[/img] . they are also relatively low profile.

Much the same with mine so I don't feel as bad. Mostly I guess I'm looking at alternative knee armour.

Dale sells legs that are good for sport armour. Tell him what you want to wear over them. You might chose to omit the fan on the polyens.
