I'm loving the maximillian-style flutes on the top.

At least he knows what he's selling, and isn't telling people it's good to go for SCA.

I don't think those are flutes...

BUT I DIDN'T WANT TO GO THERE!

Damn, I was going to make one of those, and sell it as a "vintage SCA heavy combat helm". I wonder if I could actually convince someone it is a collector's item.

Mike, don't be looking at my pressurized hydrocarbons cans under the bench.

Ok, all we need is a magic marker and a good plasma torch artist and we be good to go.

How making a barbute out of one?

Buhahahahahahahah........................

Heh- you laugh- I actually made one. Two actually. And a spangen. I made them back in the early 80's for my kids to play boffer weapons in the Outlands. Rolled the bottom edges and flattened the 'bumps' even. I was pretty pleased in my cluelessness. I couldn't wear the barbute though as my nose stuck out the front and as I didn't roll those edges, it hurt when someone hit me in the head. Ah, memories.

Your nose stuck out through a freon can??? How big is your head? Are you the elephant man?

I made the black one on the right, second shelf out of a BBQ propane tank. It's almost like a freon tank except it's about 14 ~ 12 ga steel.

Some might think so...

They were, if I remember correctly, thinner and smaller than the freon tanks used in the early SCA. (If not I'm amazed any of them lived to tell about it) That and I had them padded for kids heads so they didn't fit on my noggin to begin with.

Hmmm, come to think of it, I've still got my 12 ga FT helm from the early '70s. Probably a holy relic by now. (Please note that the number of armorers could be counted, nationwide, without running out of fingers and toes back then. A freon tank wasn't such a bad doodge back then. They have since outlived their usefulness, but for "combat" it was never a big deal anyway.)

For several years I had a Freon can in my shop that I intended to make a helm out of. Now they have never been legal in my 19 years in the SCA, but I wanted to make a helm based on pictures of ones from when they were legal, and then label it as a "recreation of SCA legal helm circa 1980" (or something like that).

Never did get around to it.
