SCA style milanese gaunts

Post by Qwertypolk »

I'm currently planning a milanese kit for SCA and living history, though am planning to buy seperate sets of gaunts, so as to save my hands somewhat in SCA.

Anyone out there have any nice, SCA type, 15thc. Milanese style mitten gaunts? I'm looking for ideas to try out when I next have a little time to do so.

I don't see any reason why these wouldn't pass inspection. But I havent tried to yet...

Very nice! I may just have to have words with people to find out if they would. Where abouts were they bought, or are they your own piece?

I built them. or it rather as the left is not finished. My power shear died before I could cut the steel for the left. :D

I'm doing a symetrical gauntlets for a jousting harness for myself.

I dont see any reason why they shouldnt pass. thumb should ground out on rattan as should the finger plates. Only issue I can see a scadian having is that the right is 18ga mild.

18ga is legal.

I know it is. Most people playing that game seem to have a strange illogical prediliction for 1.6-2mm steel for everything on their harness.

I don't think it's strange. Some people just don't like hammering out dents. The obvious (yet expensive) alternative is to invest in spring steel. ymmv.

Hi

Post by Pitbull Armory »

Hi there, That gaunt looks nice. The thumb on the gaunt shown will not ground on the weapon, and its not solid so your thumb can be jambed, but I think thats a personal preference, not a sca rule? Is that correct? Querty I can make you a set of these for 200, Ive been going to put a SCA thumb that grounds, and is jamb proof on the next set I build. I just checked and turnaround time on an order would be about 2-3 months. There are many other armorers here that can make these gaunts for you.

Baron those arent milanese mittens I dont think, but they look nicely made.

Happy Hollidays
