Osprey's Knight Hospitaller ( 1 )

Post by Baron Conal »

On the back and in the colored center section plate A
shows an interesting piece of hand 'armor'.

Plate A figure 4 - Brother knight-at-arms c.1305

his hand protection....?

Like a CoP for your hands, more specifically the wrist...?

Kinda like a hockey glove? ( even though I hate to
make that comparison... )

if you search on Amazon you can see the back cover
of the book.... but it does not come up if you look at
individual pages....

shhh.... don't tell anyone I scanned the picture....

The gloves are based on the effigy of Guido Pallavicino (d. 1301) in Parma, Italy. Photos may be seen here.

I would think that they are quilted, with splints-maybe whalebone, or even hardened leather. The metacarpal would be better out of leather, IMO.
