Hello,

I'm presuming that this is Volkhardt? If so wellcome to the archive (and if not welcome anyway)

I love the brass work. The background seems a little uneven, is that from the acid or did you do the brass with with engraving tools or stamping? Either way the edges are crisp and clean and nice.

You have 2 unfilled holes in the upper spaulder cops. Were these temporary rivets during the construction process and if so, why not fill them with dummy rivets? maybe even counter sink the top and bottom and then aggresivly peen the rivets to fill the gaps and grind the heads flush to the outside.

Also, You used modern round washers near both the brass and the central holes in the cop. The rivet direction makes sense for the articulation straps that you can't easily get to and the washers kind of tie the shape together... but why not use inward facing dome-heads with a fender washer on the inside? Oooh! Or you could acid-etch some brass rosets for the cop rivets so they looked even more like the strap rivets that hold down the motto.

Nice work overall.

Thank you both, and this is indeed Volkhard.

I used an acid etch (1 part muratic, two parts Hydrogen peroxide, with black spray paint as my relief/ using a needle to remove the area i wanted etched.) Took about 20 minutes to etch.

Dummy rivits are a great idea. I am waiting till I can get ahold of some brass rivits and will do so.

I love the idea for the rivits that hold to motto/straps and I will be drilling these out to redo them.

Vivat, welcome, and well come, Hogfather/Volkard. You are well on your way to working marvels in your little shop.

To judge from your product, your shop is well equipped. Have you your copy of TOMAR? Lengthy SCA experience? Do tell us about yourself.

I once resided in the Barony of Lochmere myself, from the time it was Shire Arindale on through Lochmere's beginnings.
