I've always thought this was a jupon worn over a breastplate. I've never noticed the lance rest before.

Now I'm confused. Fabric covered armour would not have all of those wrinkles, but a jupon would not have a lance rest. Could the jupon have a hole cut in it for the rest?

I've seen some effigies with surcoats or jupons that have holes in them to accommodate weapon chains so why not?

And I agree, it's a globose breastplate with a lance rest beneath a jupon.
