Greetings.

Who uses maille chausses? What do You point them and how? Does it work for footcombat.

I am in process of trying to figure out how to hang and modify chausses similar to these:

So far my attempts have been rather frustrating. I am not entirely sure where on my legs these should hang to do it properly and reliably.
Neither am I sure how the part covering the foot should actually work.
(I was fiburing of putting a leatherstrap under instep if I figure out the right point.

I have heard such operation being done succesfully by using a liner and stitching the maille to those. But I did not inquire at the timewhat supported the weight. The man was using those for sca combat with reasonable succes. So I think it is doable.

What I see:

When you're looking at the picture, you're looking from the top down.

The pointy part goes up on your thigh and you lace it up the back using the pieces sticking out to the sides.

The weird castle-shaped piece at the end goes over the foot. Once you finish lacing from the top down you'll see how much is left and how it goes on your foot.

We are seeing same thing, which is a good thing.

I started by lacing the back shut and tried to pull these on like wool hosen.
I have yet not found the natural place or method to point these though.
A leather loop stitched to top of pointy part and hanging from my kidney belt seems ackward.
Point through my pourpoint and top of the chausse in front of me leaves these hanging way too low.
I tried to use a garter - both over and under the knee, but neither seemed natural.

I suppose that with proper knee padding - or blankets - and kneecops I get better friction on the knees which helps to stabilize the contraption. And it may be that the things don't really work until lined and pointed just right.

I was just curious as to methods that do work on people, to if possible avoid solutions that someone else has already found wanting.

Try attaching the points to your pourpoint first. Second, lace the chausses up the back of your legs and garter under the knee.
Third, lace the points through the mail. It doesn't have to be at the very top since you can put it through anywhere in the mail. That way, you can adjust the height any way you need if your legs are longer or shorter than average.

Looks promising.
Still more sagging on the knee area than I consider optimal.
I may need to point the things higher on the pourpoint.

Trim some of the castle off. Maybe design somekind of spat or turnshoe lookalike to cover my sneakers. (Combatboot looked weird under there.)

And defence of upper outer thigh is still rather lacking. May have to design something hidden there.
