question about padding

Post by aidanhroarsson »

Has anyone heard of or has experience with "Sorbothane" as padding for armour? I thought I might have heard of this stuff in the past as far as using it for padding for finger gauntlets, but not 100% sure... Can anyone shed light?

It's very popular for noise reduction in helms that ring. Why, have you got a lot of it?

I was wondering if it could be used to pad finger gauntlets... or should I say, be a better substitute to foam padding... anyone?

Oh heck yeah. Most of the dense-ish foams we've heard report of were of satisfactory performance.

1/8" craft foam from Michael's craft and hobby places works for gauntlet padding. And that's pretty humble stuff compared to deluxe material like Sorbothane.

Aidan,

I thought you have street hockey gloves sewn into your finger gauntlets? Are they not working out?

they are! just thinking of under-taking another finger gauntlet project... just seeing what's out there to make them just as protective and more stream-lined...

Sweet! I can't wait to see what you come up with. :-)

Will I see you at Coronation?

it'll take a while to complete... ultimately, it'll be a Wisby styled gauntlet, but I'm still in planning stages(figuring components out)

We will be at Coronation!
