Roman Ridge Helm (in progress)

Here is a pic of a helm that I have been tinkering with for the last year. Its meant to be a Intersica style ridge helm for SCA use. The helm halves are from Cet. Ther're welded together and the ridge strip is just decoration. Its 18 ga rivited on with roofing nails. I love the whole leather edge thing -- not sure how historically acurate it is (its in all the Osprey book illustrations so it must have been a period technique in late antiquity!) -- so the whole project is mostly an excuse to make a helm with it. The back will be a mail drape over slats. I have taken alot of inspiration of helms I've seen (White Mountain, Knotwolf) here and on Roman Army Talk. I am almost to the point where I can rivit it all together -- woohoo!

Looks really nice. I just love the ridge helms, especially w/the leather trimwork.
