update - looks like it is Jan III van Polanen not the II.

While it wasn't the height of fashion for the date, it is still very nice! It is too bad he lost his arms&legs.

Sulla, care to mention which details you're particularly pursuing? Might focus the research. Looks like the gentleman had a globose body defense such as a full-on late-fourteenth breastplate. Curious with the reinforced mail chausses as leg defense, to be sure!

Well, what's left looks like it might be reinforces over chausses...

The decorative border at the bottom of the breastplate and the complimentary ones on the arms caught my attention. Interesting piece overall. Thanks for sharing!

Well there are several things that are interesting to me. One is the way the clothing and armor is layered. The decorations on the armor and clothing etc. Basicly its is very much like what I have been thinking abotu doing.

Any way it looks like he has a mid thigh length surcoat with angel type arms over his gambeson. Then over his surcaot he has his breastplate and then a skirt of mail. Also it looks like he also has a matching backplate. I also like the decoration on the armor. And the decoration on the surcoat are also interesting to me. Just over all an interesting piece.

Full BPs are 1380-90? The Silver Altar of St James at Pistoia Cathedral shows them. Globose are more 1360-70s, I think. So grandpa wanted to wear his armor again.

Awesome shots! So many amazing details in this piece- the texture of the fabric, and the decorative edging. I love the lines of the whole kit.

Not only the pics of Jan III, but did you see the pics of the brasses of Johannes (1332) & Gerard (1398) van Heers? Amazing stuff! I think this photo account bears some more examination.
