GDFB Bascinet Rehab

Post by Pitbull Armory »

Hi guys, I got this GDFB Bascinet from JousterAlan a while back here on the AA. It had a flat face when I got it, I mean it was flat and square looking. Just a few simple things made this helm alot more pleasant to look at and it was fun just getting to do the easy part of something. Heres what I did..

Dished the visor out about 2.5 inches.
Drilled holes under the eye openings and made them go from big to small, added an inner ring of small holes on each side.
Cleaned up all the edges and eye openings.
Added a Brass Peg to lift the visor with
Added a creased Brass strip with borders scribed on it up the center with a deco washer.
Squished the helms bottom together to be narrower on the bottom front to back.
Added a Bar across the bottom of the face opening behind the visor to hold up the front of the aventail.

Nothing major just small fun stuff.

Have a good weekend

last 2, After looking at the helm in pics I may add a ring of smaller holes around the clusters on each side for more of a starburst look.

Here is the thread with an original pic of the helm, From the angle of the pic you cant see how flat the face really was, Pancakeish. A little dishing made a big difference I think.

Amazing upgrade job. Its a completely different helmet.

Reminds me a bit of the ones from the movie "Excalibur" or "Sword of the Valiant" very much a Terry English feel to it.

It is as PatternWeld says amazing. It is so different from the original I doubt most would assume they had been one and the same earlier. I think you have really made this a great helmet. Nice work.

Awesome! Would it still maintain thickness usable for SCA combat after the dishing?

dude NICE job.

Now you need to figure pricing on "rehabing" GDFB helms. Cause, that came out so nice I'd certainly entertain buying one.

^this^

I've got a GDFB pigface that could certainly use some rehabilitation.

Thanks for the pics PB, you are a miracle worker.
