Evolution of the Maximilian Visor

Just wandering around studying up on some armor tonight, noticed a fun little trend in some of the photos I stumbled through. It all starts to make sense... Heh. Of course, I'm being stereotypical.
All photos are from either my own flickr and were taken at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna, or they came from
Thoog's Flickr Armoury. They are from his collections from The Met in NY, or the Higgins in Worchester, MA. The dates are those given by the museums.
Cheers!

I'm telling you, I think our theory of stoned German nobles and their armourers all sitting around with the munchies and some wacky ideas for armour is a good one.

Well now that theory definatly explains some of the more, um, interesting pieces I've seen in my travels.

I'm not sold on the Sallet to closehelm progression.
I lean more towards the Armet being the precursor to the Close helm.

Yes, Rod, I think we're onto something. I plan on writing my Thesis about the topic now.
Irish, our of the pictures I posted actually are armets. I was more or less playing around with the implications of Germans making visors. Obviously, there are dozens of examples to throw into the mix to get a good picture of the true progression. Cheers!

A couple of those hats look like Bashford Dean's. Can you learn more about them here:

PS, yes, the person who made the visor in the 5th pic down was baked for sure.

Ya know Rod, I wonder how much drugs actually did play a part in in some of the more creative armours... just an idle thought...
