Cutting poltruded fiberglass?

The subject pretty much says it all.
I just got my 9' spear from Mandrake Armoury but the damn Post Office, in all it's shipping glory, has cracked about the first 8" of it. As I've been waiting to get hold of one of these babies for 6 months I don't want to ruin what's left of it.

Hacksaw with a good blade. Get one meant for fiberglass.

And wrap it with strapping tape where you are going to cut it.

When I first read that I thought it read 8 feet... that woulda sucked!
anyways... also were one of those little cotton masks and some sort of gloves. At the least you want the gloves.
also, by the time you build a head for it you'll get a bit of that range back

WHEN CUTTING FIIBREGLASS, EVEN WITH HAND TOOLS, ALWAYS ALWAYS ALWAYS PROTECT THE EYS!!!!!
I once spent the scariest 5 days of my liife completely blind, with bandages and stuff on my eyes, as a result of cutting and grinding fibrglass without proper eye protection (a monogogle, not just safety specs). The little bits of shrapnel had gotten into my eyes and then acted just like an abrasive with my eyelids, took the top layer off my eye!
Eventually it was all healed, but it is not a good experience.
Other then that, all the advise given about tapping the area you are about to cut and using a hacksaw with sharp new blade is good advise. The only thing I would add is that when cutting a round shape, cut form the outside inwards. This means make a few passes with the saw and then rotate the tube so that you are running the cut line around the circumfirence of the tube. This prevents splintering as the cut nears t finish.
