So, has anyone out there made a jack? (a jacket similar in nature to lamellar... plates laced together in a pretty simple pattern, central hole in the plates, not edges, and the plates are sandwiched inbetween layers of fabric over padding with the laces showing on the outside)

If anyone has made and used such a garment, what level of protection did it provide in your opinion? My interest lies toward SCA heavy combat, so how would it perform against blunt weapons??
