Great work rene! Out of curiosity, which museum ordered it? I would love to visit the exhibition once its open.

Also: I wasn't aware that leathers on the face-side of the neck protecting fins (obviously missing a technical term right now) was a thing. Is there a technical reason for the leather strips?

Cheers

The leather on the "fins" is there for making the edge a bit padded and gives them a more massive look.
When you have a look at genuine examples, you will seldom see rivetborders without a leather behind.

Beautiful work. I love the combination of the flutes and the double line work. You have that process DOWN!

Thanks guys for your interest :-)

Yesterday i traveled again the 400 km to the exhibition to built up the suit on his new base.
It stands in a high of 3m over the heads of the visitors. The exhibition is at the new arsenal of the Fortification Königstein in Saxonia near Dresden. The exhibition will open next friday, then i am allowed to show more photos of the armour with the space around it. I have uploaded some more pictures at pinterest. Hope you enjoy.

But he would know!

As a person who works in a Museum you never know how displays will change over time and parts get moved about. Better that all the details are there are the beginning.

I'm sure the purchase was not an insignificant investment. That suit could and hopefully will eventually end up in a more prominent setting eventually. Going to be a pain to dust up there!

I like the active pose of the mannequin. Nicely done.

Oh, that's great, they have Terminators...

Pretty sure your guy can take him though!

Neat space. Do you know what it was used for when this was an actual fortification? Looks like an interesting set of artifacts too.

The irony that most folks will miss is that the amount of work in the armour is likely significantly higher than that of the "Terminator"

Again, beautiful build Rene, thank you for sharing it with us.

Post by Rene K. »

so after this armouringmarathon and cleaning and reorganisate my workshop i was a bit unfit today and started to organisate my pinterest galleries. On my armour archive i stumbled over some older photos i made 10 years ago at the GNM and once started to work them up. But i never finished this, so i thought i could share some of my records with you. I'm not shure i did this back then, but i loaded up some of this arranged pictures on pinterest because there is so less published about. Maybe for some of you it is for interest.
Hope you enjoy.

I would add "don't drop anvils on any part of your body"

I was out of commission because I was bringing an anvil to a friends house and he did a wide detour to get to his gate. Since I was carrying a 150 lb anvil, I went straight. The detour was due to a large patch of black ice. I slipped, and the anvil horn hammered into my right leg. This caused my friend to come back to see why I was screaming.

He carefully gathered up the anvil and took it into the garage...
