"real" armor buying tip........

Post by Vermin »

So, you've found a piece of "real" armor at an auction site, or at a garage sale (hey, it happens...RARELY, but it happens...) etc.
You could afford it, life might be tight for a bit, but it COULD be done......

Look at it first.
There is a (sometimes) easy way to verify things......
Washers.
Be VERY wary of round ones.
They mean repair, at the very least.

Think about this- Would a smith from "back in the day" have spent the time to make a ROUND washer?

This is by no means an fool proof test, but it's good start.
I just saved a friend of mine a bunch of bucks by telling him this after he sent me pics of a "real" helm he was going to buy......
Alot of the Victorian repro stuff is nice, and well made.
But, it's not "real", and most of it uses round washers.

Just thought you might like to know, if you didn't already.
