ok, initially this is going to sound weird, but....

I want to glue felt to the undersides of various sections of my armour... inside the area of the pauldron that overlaps the breastplate, on the inside of the tassets, etc. Basically, everywhere where the metal clangs or scrapes against another part of the suit.

I want to do this for a couple of reasons. One, to cut the noise of the suit down, but more importantly to try and prevent the metal from scraping the crap out of my nice blued finish.

any ideas? I figured that felt would work fairly well - though felt isnt exactly known for its toughness... any recommendations as to what material to use, and how to attach it strongly would be greatly appreciated.

I used regular spray glue and suede cow leather from Brettun's Village - very nice stuff. It works really nice and the suede is tough as hell. For another piece I used a hot glue gun, and it worked too.

I used lepage contact glue for suede to steel, works wonderfully, I coule even hammer the metal afterwards and it doesn't un-stick.

Spray contact adhesive should work as good, plus it's easier to apply.

Spray adhesive seems to degrade with time, temp, weather...etc. I've glued leather to metal, felt to metal, cloth to leather, leather to leather, etc, with contact cement. It's pretty much permanent.

Liquid Rubber Cement works well too. You can get cans of it at fabric stores.

I use barge cement to glue prothesis-grade leather to the back of mine.

Contact cement comes in big cans too.

Contact adhesive is good.

I find most leather products that are not too heavy will degrade and tear with time and wear. I have had good success with theatre curtain weight wool. It looks like felt but is way way tougher.
Of course i get the stuff for free.....Shudder to think what it would cost to have to buy....

How about canvas to aluminum?

I want to cover up my aluminum shield blank with canvas so I can paint it (and cover the brushed aluminum look).

Contact cement??

I made a pair of karvashes (Eastern European/Turkish arm guards) & lined them with elk hide, suede side out. Rubber cement worked very well for that. The elk worked well too. It is very soft, yet tough and it has some strech in it too.

I use Elmer's Stix All. I haven't had any problem at all with it. That stuff just won't quit. I've used it for practically any thing I needed glued to my armour, leather to leather, foam to steel, foam to leather, leather to steel, etc.
