I finally finished this helmet, after weeks of off and on work, and am getting ready to sell it (ebay). The whole thing is 14 guage mild steel. The inside is painted and the bargril is primered so it can be blacked out later. The visor is just bolted on right now, because I had to paint the inside, and havent riveted it back on yet. It has duel spring pins on either side of the visor to keep it closed. Tell me what you think of it. http://www.angelfire.com/tx5/kotc/bevorpictures.html
the first few pics are of a bevor, dont mind them, they dont bite.
I was planning on using the bevor with it, but there is an inch gap between the bevor and the inside of the helmet on either side, so I didnt think it would be very safe. I left plenty of room under the bargrill for a bevor though. If you leave the bargrill grey, they dont show up very much against the bevor. Its hard to see how it would all fit together without padding, and I dont want to have glue all over the inside whenever I sell it.
The parts of your visor that extend to the pivot points seem rather insubstancial, which may be a durability problem. A more accurate reproduction would have thos arms wider, shorter, and more vertical. The tail turned out good.
Thanks Rainald. I built your pattern as a first helmet, when I first joined the sca, and I can definatly say this sallet is much more of a service to your work than the first one! As for the visor, I plan to redesign that later. I wasnt thinking properly when I made the pattern, and all I could think about was making my first visor for the sallet. On the next one, I plan to change my bevor design to fit the sallet more securely, with as little of a gap as possible.
