What gauge would you recommend for splinted armour?

I'm using 16g stainless. But don't take it from me. Here's a how to from a real expert:

16 ga mild works well also. Just remember...the higher the ga the higher the weight.

Just a note 16gauge works great. You MUST curve them though or they'll bend every time they're hit.
