Post by blackbird »

im rathe new here and i posted a question about a month ago asking how to cut stainless steel, well i found a guy with a plasma cutter and now finally the breastplate, back plate and spaulders are ready. i must say that becasue its used in larp and not SCA its not very authentic.

Imagine that! That's how I started! I used my dad's 3lb sledge (unmodified), my stump in my backyard, and my Ibeam anvil to make my first spangen, at age 17. A few months later, I'm on to a little more sophisticated things, with more sophisticated tools. I can see that you'll go far.

That looks like a good first effort! I especially like the way you took the time to work the nipples onto it.

I think you might be happier if you re-did the shoulder protection (spalders). There is a great pattern here on the archive for them, and they are actually pretty easy.

As for tools, there is a fellow here on the archive that makes tools for new armourers, and they are really good. Here is the thread for them. He has just started selling them.

good luck, and don't stop making armour. You will get better with each piece.

Try sending a note to this person, he is listed as the point of contact for Israel.

I think they have an event this Monday or perhaps it was last Monday.

If you cannot get in touch with them let me know.

So, Blackbird. Have you fought in your new gear yet?

The reason I ask is that it looks like the spalders will bite into the side of your neck when you raise your arms.

C'mon, let us know how it is working out!

If you can't roll the edges try folding them over. I haven't gotten into making metal armour yet, I use leather mostly. But, the few pieces of metal I did years ago had folded edges and it worked fine.

Nice work btw

its stainless stell 1.5 milimiters thick so folding or roling the edges in any form with just my one hammer is impossible, I was thinking in the direction of cotting the ends with somthing.

I didnt go to the evet on monday because as far as I know the events are in Jerusalem and I leave in tel-aviv, a long way to go.
